Accelrys Honors Sanofi with Inaugural Scientific Innovation Lifecycle Leaders Award Sanofi's SHERPA service recognized for improving collaboration with external partners in life sciences Research and Development
PARIS and SAN DIEGO, June 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Accelrys, Inc. (NASDAQ: ACCL), a leading provider of scientific innovation lifecycle management software, today announced that it has honored Sanofi-Aventis Recherche & Developpement (hereinafter "Sanofi") with the first Accelrys Scientific Innovation Lifecycle Leaders Award. The award, in the Life Sciences Research and Development category, recognizes Sanofi's Share Drug Discovery Data with External Partners (SHERPA) service, which is dramatically accelerating Sanofi's collaboration with external partners, addressing a key obstacle to bringing innovative new products to market faster and more efficiently.
The award was accepted by Marie-Pierre Fialon, Data Manager Sanofi R&D, Yves Collenot, Project Manager Informatics & Solution Sanofi R&D and Joel Ducassou, Head of Solution Center Sanofi R&D, in a ceremony held June 12, 2013, at the Sanofi Research & Development Center located at Vitry-sur-Seine (Val-de-Marne area).
"With SHERPA and a joint team from Informatics & Solution and Structure Design & Informatics departments' experts offering counsel in support of scientists at any time — scientists do not need to become engaged in complex, time-consuming data management activities, but rather focus full-time on R&D. The project team is very proud to be awarded for this accomplishment," said Yves Collonot, SHERPA project manager for Sanofi.
Sanofi's SHERPA service provides a generic and complete drug discovery data exchange environment for external collaboration that enables externalized multi-disciplinary teams – including scientists and representatives from information services, data management, intellectual property and alliance management – to collaborate securely in real-time. For each partnership, SHERPA offers a common data storage and collaboration solution using the cloud-based Accelrys HEOS drug research information portal.
The SHERPA service includes comprehensive end-user guidelines, contract templates, technical expertise, support and training. SHERPA allows processes to evolve over time, adapting to feedback within the collaboration. This powerful combination provides a competitive advantage for R&D teams by enabling:
- Improved data management, quality and security via streamlined data exchange among internal teams and external partners
- Reduced time spent managing data and fewer errors
"As organizations struggle to manage their growing externalized research networks, Sanofi's SHERPA service exemplifies the kind of creative approach companies can take to enhance collaboration and optimize their R&D efforts," said Leif Pedersen, Accelrys' senior vice president of marketing, product management and corporate development. "Through our Scientific Innovation Lifecycle Leaders Award program, Accelrys recognizes companies that are leveraging pioneering technology solutions and processes to accelerate new product innovation, speed time-to-market and increase profitability, and we're pleased to recognize our customer, Sanofi, with the first award."
"Sanofi is committed to bringing innovative new therapies to market that protect health and enhance the lives of patients; finding the right technology solutions that can help us accomplish this goal is critical," said Carlos Garcia-Echeverria, Deputy Drug Discovery & Preclinical Development, Sanofi Oncology. "We're honored to receive the Accelrys Scientific Innovation Lifecycle Leaders Award and proud of the SHERPA team for providing a secure collaboration service that is significantly enhancing our work with external partners and driving innovation."
The Accelrys Scientific Innovation Lifecycle Leaders Award recognizes those companies working to accelerate product innovations, speed time-to-market and increase profitability through technology solutions in four categories — Life Sciences Research and Development; Materials Science and Engineering; Process Management and Compliance; and Excellence in Enterprise Informatics Implementation.
