SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- On December 9 at the Target store at 5001 Junipero Serra Blvd, Colma, CA, the Bay Area Deputy Sheriffs' Charitable Foundation (BADSCF) will host 300 Bay Area disadvantaged children for the "Sheriffs and You®" Christmas Shopping Spree. The Foundation will provide transportation to and from the event, which takes place from 7:00 am to 11:30 am. Since 2005, the annual Sheriffs and You Shopping events have touched the lives of over 3,000 underprivileged children in San Francisco and Bay Area cities.
300 underprivileged children from different Bay Area cities will participate in this year's shopping spree. The majority of the children are from San Francisco poorest neighborhoods. They are under the care of Community Youth Center (CYC), Children Council of San Francisco (CCSF), Hunters Point Family and Instituto Familiar de la Rasa.
The highlight of this year's event is that several of our previous recipients are returning to volunteer and accompany this year's children in shopping. Each child will have $200.00 to shop. They will be purchasing winter school clothing and other individual holiday gifts.
The mission of the Bay Area Deputy Sheriffs' Foundation is to help underprivileged children see that people in the community care about their well-being. The Foundation often forges relationships with the children it serves that last throughout their school years and into early adulthood. Many young people have remarked that the Foundation was a powerful influence on their development, encouraging them to pursue loftier goals than they otherwise might have.
The Bay Area Sheriffs' Foundation's work is made possible by the participation of the business community as well as the enthusiasm of countless volunteers. Generous donations from local retailers enable the Foundation to hold Christmas and back-to-school shopping sprees each year. These charitable programs create stronger bonds within communities and are a worthy investment in the future.
