Brazilian companies take on commitments at FORUM MULHERES LIDERES [Women Leaders' Forum]
SAO PAULO, July 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The FORUM DE MULHERES LIDERES [Women Leaders' Forum], held at Anguilla from July 17th through 20th, an initiative of LIDE and LIDE MULHER [LIDE WOMEN], brought together 25 women executives who run major companies, reaffirming the importance of women executives in the economic and social development of Brazil.
At the FORUM, Luiza Helena Trajano, President of Magazine Luiza, noted the feminine characteristics that contribute to the development of business: intuition, sensitivity, spirituality, emotion, interactivity and flexibility, all engaged in constructive and educational ways.
According to a study presented by Denise Rutherford, President of 3M in Latin America, entitled, First step: women in the world – produced by Catalyst, an American organization with the mission of expanding opportunities for women and business – increasing the number of women in employment can increase GDP in developing countries, stimulating growth and stability more rapidly.
Companies with a higher representation of women executives had a 56% increase in EBIT – earnings before interest and taxes – and a 41% boost in ROE – return on equity, according to a survey by McKinsey.
To bring about these paradigm changes, Brazilian executives are proposing the following:
- Collaboration on the approval of quotas for women in executive positions at companies as a transitory process to offset inequality.
- Increase the percentage of women in leadership positions at companies within 5 years;
- Identify and develop professionals so that they are capable of holding management positions;
- Set a goal for increasing the percentage of women in leadership positions at the companies of each participant in the Forum, based on core business, and reassess the increase in 12 months;
- Check to see whether companies provide the necessary support and offer solutions to retain staff;
- In cases of geographic mobility of talented and competent executives, propose solutions and offer a family structure, such as helping husbands to find jobs in new cities;
- Correct salary inequality between men and women who hold the same position at the same company;
- Networking opportunity with people who can open career doors.
