CannaBadge Supports Voluntary Labeling Requirements for Cannabis Products
The company's edible label won't become separated from packaging, and increases level of child safety
NEW YORK, Oct. 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- CannaBadge (www.cannabadge.com), the developer of an edible frosting label that is applied on cannabis-infused products such as cakes, cookies, brownies and cupcakes, commented on the recent news that Colorado regulators may ban forms of edible marijuana, until stricter controls on labeling can imposed.
Lawmakers ordered state regulators to require pot-infused edibles to have a distinct look when they are out of the packaging. The order came after concerns that pot-infused treats could be accidentally eaten by children.
"We need to know what is in our food," said Gina Carbone of the advocacy group Smart Colorado, which says edible pot shouldn't be allowed if it can't be identified out of its packaging.
Karin McGowan, deputy executive director of the Colorado Department of Public Health said that the edibles ban is currently under review.
Carolyn Sevos, Founder and CEO of CannaBadge, says her company has the solution. "The problem is that on most edibles, the product and label become separated after removal from the packaging," she stated. "We provide the world's first and only edible label. It is customized with all necessary information and child-safety cautions, and is placed directly on the frosted cannabis-edible and won't become separated until eaten."
Sevos is not supporting new legislation. "We prefer the industry adopts voluntary labeling to create better clarity for consumers, rather than imposing prohibition laws."
According to the Huffington Post, marijuana edibles have been under fire following two high-profile deaths.
"An edible label protects manufacturers and dispensary owners from potential liability when accidental or over-ingestion occurs when a product becomes separated from it's packaging," Sevos stated. "Plus, our custom-created edible labels are colorful and engaging, which enhances brand identity and improves customer loyalty."
The CannaBadge edible graphic can be customized to include THC levels, dosages, state-specific warnings, and brand logos, and can be applied to almost any edible infused product.
"Rather than waiting for tighter regulations and possible outright bans, now manufacturers, distributors and sellers of infused edibles can meet the public concerns by applying a CannaBadge to their products today."
