Carando® Cares and Big Y® Serve National Guard with Holiday Ham Feast
Carando Provides Christmas Ham Dinner for Military Families at Barnes Air National Guard Base
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Dec. 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Carando® Classic Italian Meats showed its gratitude for the brave men and women of Barnes Air National Guard Base and served the soldiers and their family members a holiday dinner this afternoon. Joined by local retailer Big Y®, the Massachusetts-based companies prepared a feast of Carando premium hams, green beans, oven roasted potatoes, mac & cheese and chocolate chip cookies for the hundreds in attendance. The meal is part of the ongoing "Carando Cares" initiative which focuses on helping organizations that are making a positive difference in the New England area.
With its production facility located in nearby Springfield, Mass., Carando has directly seen the displays of valor and selflessness that Barnes Air National Guard Base soldiers have made. Along with Big Y, the company wanted to share some holiday cheer with its hometown heroes who protect the nation's freedom.
"We can never take for granted all of the sacrifices that our military makes for us," said Mike Sargent, brand manager for Carando. "It is truly an honor to serve these individuals who have served us. This meal is just our way of saying 'thank you' for all of their dedication and the sacrifices they have made for our country."
Since it began in 2013, the "Carando Cares" campaign has included delivering hams to Boston's fire stations, serving an Easter dinner to the children at Shriners Hospital for Children-Boston and treating the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine to a baseball game and most recently a holiday ham dinner.
This afternoon's holiday dinner with Barnes Air National Guard Base marks the second time that Carando and Big Y have paired together in corporate giving. Last year the organizations served all of the city's firefighters in Springfield, Mass. a Christmas dinner.
"Freedom is not free, and all of us at Big Y are honored to help our National Guard military families right here in our Barnes Air National Guard base," said Donald H. D'Amour, Chairman of the Board for Big Y.
