CHCI Leans In to Support Development of Latina Leaders
CHCI Proud to be One of Six National Launch Partners of Lean In
WASHINGTON, March 11, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) is proud to announce its partnership with Lean In, a non-profit organization committed to offering women the encouragement and support to achieve their goals. CHCI joins the Black Filmmakers Foundation, Catalyst, Estee Lauder, Lionsgate Films, and Teach for America as official launch partners with Lean In because it believes that cultivating more balanced teams and more female leaders is better for its organization and for the nation, and because it wants all men and women to reach their full potential for a strong America.
"CHCI's development of the next generation of Latino leaders includes the empowerment of young Latinas who will be the future leaders of our nation, our communities and our families," said Esther Aguilera, CHCI President & CEO. "We are proud to Lean In and join this tremendous effort to showcase and foster the leadership of women. These type of efforts are even more crucial to young Latinas who do not have the support network, mentors, or tools to help them navigate the challenges of the complex workplace. We thank Lean In for focusing on this issue and the diversity of our current and future workforce."
CHCI's partnership with Lean In includes a feature on CHCI's Vice President of Governance Carmen Joge as part of Lean In Stories, where women and men share their favorite "leaning in" and "leaning back" moments in their careers.
CHCI is encouraging all its employees and more than 8,500 alumni around the country to take advantage of the free materials and programs on leanin.org. Many of them are tailored for women, but there's also valuable information on topics that are universally important, such as creating successful teams and combating the negative effects of gender bias. CHCI is engaging all of its stakeholders, including its alumni, board of directors, advisory council, and supporters through all channels, which reaches more than 9 million fans and followers a year. We invite everyone to "Like" Lean In on Facebook to join the conversation and receive daily inspiration, ideas, and insight from the Lean In Community.
"Lean In combines the best of social networking, online learning and small peer groups to create a community that can move us towards a more equal world," said Sheryl Sandberg, a co-founder of Lean In and the chief operating office of Facebook. "As we start using the talents of the entire population, our institutions will be more productive, our homes will be happier, and our children will no longer be held back by narrow stereotypes."
On leanin.org, you can:
- Read an excerpt of Lean In: Women, Work & the Will to Lead, the book by Sheryl Sandberg, and download guides to discuss the book with friends and co-workers.
- Watch short video lectures on topics that will improve your communication and leadership skills, such as how to negotiate for better results and how to exude confidence in any situation.
- Form a Lean In Circle, 8 to 10 peers who meet monthly to learn and grow together.
CHCI programs educate, empower, and connect nearly 1,600 young Latino men and women annually. Many are first in their family to go to college, and the majority comes from families with annual incomes of less than $45,000. CHCI's unique model of educational services and leadership development – promoting college readiness, supporting college attainment and providing direct access to the most powerful network of Latino leadership – helps ensure career success and has put thousands of young people on a pathway to achieving the American Dream.
Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI), a nonprofit and nonpartisan 501(c)(3) organization, provides leadership development programs and educational services to students and young emerging leaders. The CHCI Board of Directors is comprised of Hispanic members of Congress, nonprofit, union, and corporate leaders.
