Cigital Releases One Hundredth Episode of The Silver Bullet Security Podcast with Dr. Gary McGraw
McGraw celebrates eight years of security conversations with top security professionals
DULLES, Va., July 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Cigital, Inc., the industry leader in software security services, announced the release of the one hundredth episode of The Silver Bullet Security Podcast with Gary McGraw. With McGraw, Chief Technology Officer at Cigital, acting as both host and scriptwriter throughout the show's eight-year run, over 1,065,000 downloads have been recorded to date. Joining McGraw to discuss the top security topics within the industry, guests have included computer security guru Dan Geer, co-creators of one of the world's first network firewalls and honeypots Steve Bellovin and Bill Cheswick and computer security expert and columnist Mikko Hypponen.
"Silver Bullet provides a welcome antidote to security FUD through thoughtful conversation about real ideas," said cryptographer and computer security and privacy specialist Bruce Schneier. "The Silver Bullet Security Podcast audience clearly agrees, with nearly 11,000 average listeners per episode and more than one million total downloads."
"Security engineering is getting more important all the time as all sorts of devices acquire CPUs [Central Processing Units] and communications, usually without their designers stopping to think about the consequences," said Cambridge University Professor and security engineering expert Ross Anderson. "Silver Bullet does a great job in getting the message out."
With topics ranging from software security to cyber warfare, The Silver Bullet Security Podcast's most popular show to date has been episode #13 featuring Anderson and McGraw discussing the economic imbalance between software developers and a system's users and the security implications of wearing a kilt.
Over the eight-year history of The Silver Bullet Security Podcast, three special episodes have also been captured on video: Episode Fifty, featuring former National Coordinator for Security, Infrastructure Protection, and Counter-terrorism for the United States, Richard A. Clarke, Episode Seventy-Five, featuring Howard Schmidt, former Cybersecurity Coordinator for the Obama administration, and Episode One-Hundred, featuring Cigital Principal Consultants John Steven, Scott Matsumoto, Paco Hope, Jim DelGrosso and Sammy Migues and filmed in front of a live audience of more than 300 people at a Tech Fair hosted by Cigital.
"Silver Bullet is lots of work, but it is also a real joy to produce," said Dr. Gary McGraw, host of The Silver Bullet Security Podcast. "Hosting in-depth conversations with people who are busy changing computer security for the better makes my job fun. With the help from the IEEE Computer Society staff, I spend hours on each script. We've produced a new Silver Bullet Security Podcast episode for 100 months in a row! Looking back on what we've accomplished is very gratifying."
McGraw created the Silver Bullet Security Podcast for IEEE Computer Society's IEEE Security & Privacy magazine in 2006. The podcast is excerpted in the magazine and featured on IEEE Security & Privacy's website.
