Crowd-funding Momentum Helps Old Skool Cafe Secure Home and Help Youth Gain Jobs
SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- With the help of the new "Giving Tuesday" tradition, Old Skool Cafe is beating the nonprofit odds. Instead of being driven from San Francisco by high costs, it is attracting funds to own its youth-run restaurant property outright and help more young people turn their lives around. The nonprofit launched a $100,000 year-end Indiegogo campaign on Giving Tuesday, which has already brought in more than $40,000 - almost halfway to reaching the December goal!
Located in Bayview Hunters Point, Old Skool faced a crisis earlier this year when its building was put up for sale. Friends of Old Skool, including some of San Francisco's most prominent foundations, rallied to help secure the building for the nonprofit and minimize its mortgage.
Participants in the Indiegogo campaign (http://igg.me/at/Old-Skool-Cafe ) are helping the nonprofit pay off the building and better support struggling youth, guiding them to break the cycles of poverty, violence, and incarceration.
In the spirit of the holiday season, a generous donor has offered to match all contributions made to the campaign between December 10 - December 15th up to $10,000.
