Crowdfunding for Charity: Newly Launched Indiegogo Campaign Aims to Raise Funds for Children in Rwanda
Paul and Nicola Weaver share experience of recent trip through photo-book campaign "Five Days in Rwanda," in hopes of raising $15K for Bisate Public School
AUSTIN, Texas, Dec. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- When award-winning video game Director and Producer Paul Weaver and his wife Nicola traveled to Rwanda this year, it was the fulfillment of a twenty year dream to visit the mountain gorillas. During their adventure they visited a local children's school, which inspired them both to find a way to help a wonderful group of kids by creating a photo-book of their adventures and sharing the profits with the school.

This year, Paul and Nicola traveled to Rwanda's Musanze district with a group organized by the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, whose education fund supports Bisate Public School, nestled at the base of the mountains that the gorillas live on. Arriving at the school, their car was immediately surrounded by dozens of very enthusiastic and happy children.
"We brought an entire suitcase filled with school supplies with us to give to the school, as well as a soccer ball," said Paul. "The guide told us to show the soccer ball to the children from inside the car," said Nicola. "When we showed it to them, the roar of absolute joy and elation from the kids was almost indescribable, apart from perhaps being the sound of pure joy and happiness."
"I think the combination of realizing how lucky we are to live in the western world, along with the absolute gratitude shown by these children, to what most would regard as very simple gifts really hit home to us," said Paul. "We immediately knew we had to do more!"
Upon their return while browsing through the hundreds of pictures that they took, the idea came to them quickly: "We'd received dozens of compliments for the pictures that we had taken, so we thought, why not share these by creating a photo-book that captured the true essence of our trip?" said Paul.
After two months of hard work, the book is now complete and the husband and wife team are now looking to raise $15K to help them do a print run of books which will allow them to sell the books online and give the profits to the children's school, and they are already close to 30% of the way towards their goal.
The campaign ends on December 24 and to help incentivize people to contribute, the team is offering some really cool perks to anyone who gets involved. They include: digital wallpapers of the best pictures taken, an e-book, the physical book and even custom artwork of the gorillas which will be digitally painted by Disney Epic Mickey Art Director, Mark Stefanowicz.
