Doris & Alex Weber Jewish Community High School to be Renamed in Honor of Co-Founder Felicia Penzell Weber (z"l)
The School will now be called The Felicia Penzell Weber Jewish Community High School
ATLANTA, Oct. 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Doris and Alex Weber Jewish Community High School, a high school serving students from all Jewish backgrounds, and that provides a rigorous and dynamic college preparatory curriculum in General and Jewish Studies, along with co-curricular programming in fine and performing arts, athletics, and student activities, announced today that it will officially change its name to The Felicia Penzell Weber Jewish Community High School, at a renaming ceremony on the Weber campus on November 25, 2014.
The new name honors Felicia Penzell Weber (z"l), School co-founder, who passed away on October 7, 2013. Felicia Weber's influence helped define the Weber School's philosophical approach and forge the strong foundation that serves its students so well today.
"Weber would not be what it is today without Felicia," said Tonia Sellers, President of The Weber School Board of Trustees. "Her early support – both visionary and financial – allowed the School to take root and grow. She would be proud to see the once fledging institution turn eighteen this year, see the strength of its academics, the vibrancy of its Jewish life, the success of its students and graduates."
"Felicia Weber represented the current and future direction of our high school," said Rabbi Ed Harwitz, Head of School. "As we prepare our students for a 21st century education, we will always remember Felicia's contribution to Weber's mission and vision: embracing tradition while advancing innovation."
"For eighteen years, over 600 Weber families experienced Felicia's passion for a great Jewish community high school first hand," says Joe Weber. "We are honored to know that future Weber students and their families will continue to feel Felicia's impact on the campus she loved so much, as graduates of The Felicia Penzell Weber Jewish Community High School."
"Felicia helped build and shape our School, and quite literally, make it possible to be on the campus we now call home. In 2012 we established The Friends of Felicia Weber Endowed Unrestricted Fund, one of the School's first permanent funds, as a perpetual means to honor Felicia's enduring and generous support of student and faculty needs. Renaming the School in our 18th year, to honor our matriarch, is the most appropriate way we have to say thank you now," added Sellers.
