FFD recognized Marfrig Group as the industry leader in environmental risk management
A report by the Forest Footprint Disclosure (FFD) published in London assesses the forestry impact of 100 major corporations worldwide
SAO PAULO, Jan. 30, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Considered the most comprehensive global survey of the impact of productive activities on tropical forests, the FFD's 2012 Annual Report classified the Marfrig Group as the Leader in the Packaged Food and Meat Sector, thanks to its commitment to best environmental risk management practices. The survey evaluated the forestry impact of the operations of 100 major corporations worldwide based on the use of five basic commodities: soy, palm oil, timber, cattle products and biofuels. Conducted by the Global Canopy Programme, with the support of the UK government, the FFD Report is the leading and most comprehensive document used by the financial market to assess environmental risks in corporate management, combining the best global practices in relation to carbon emissions, water and forests in a single report. FFD is currently backed by 77 financial institutions, who manage over US$ 7 trillion in assets.

In the FFD's 2011 Annual Report, Nestle and Unilever were elected the industry leaders. Despite operating in different sectors, this year Marfrig and Unilever were awarded first place in the category. "The participation of new markets in the Packaged Food and Meat category, together with the inclusion of new global brands, is extremely welcome. However, the industry performance is still highly variable. which is why we recognized the Marfrig Group for its continuous improvement and leadership in this area," added James Hulse, the FFD's Director.
