CHICAGO, Nov. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Law Offices of Michael J. Gravlin filed suit on behalf of another alleged victim of a sexual assault and battery committed by her physician in Rockford, Illinois. The new civil complaint, filed in the Circuit Court of Cook County, alleges that Charles DeHaan sexually assaulted his patient under the fabrication of conducting in-home medical examinations.
This lawsuit is the fifth filed by The Law Offices of Michael J. Gravlin against Charles DeHaan. The lawsuit also names HouseCall Physicians Group of Rockford, S.C., HouseCall Physicians Group of Illinois, S.C., and MD@Home Management, LLC as defendants. The docket number in this matter is 2014 L 012390.
The lawsuit further alleges that Charles DeHaan's inappropriate sexual behavior was known to his employers, HouseCall Physicians Group of Rockford, S.C., HouseCall Physicians Group of Illinois, S.C., and MD@Home Management, LLC and those employers failed to intervene.
The Cook County State's Attorney's Office is currently prosecuting Charles DeHaan for the alleged sexual assault of a Des Plaines woman that occurred from 2009 to 2012. It is believed that Charles DeHaan victimized at least twelve other patients under the guise of in-home medical examinations. It is believed Charles DeHaan is currently under house arrest at his home in Belvidere, Illinois.
The Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation suspended Charles DeHaan's medical license for "sexually inappropriate conduct with multiple patients as well as authorizing Controlled Substances for individual without establishing physician-patient relationship." While Charles DeHaan cannot practice medicine in Illinois, he remains licensed to practice medicine in other states.
Charles DeHaan was also investigated by the FBI, the Illinois State Police, and other organizations for Medicare fraud. As a result of the investigation Charles DeHaan was arrested for health care fraud in January of 2014. The federal complaint alleged that Charles DeHaan engaged in a scheme to defraud Medicare through his business, HouseCall Physicians Group of Rockford, S.C. The Medicare fraud charges carry penalties of up to 10 years in prison and $250,000 in fines for Charles DeHaan.
