Georgia Power launches annual Project SHARE holiday campaign

Company matches every dollar of customer donations; more than $64 million contributed since 1985

ATLANTA, Nov. 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- With Thanksgiving marking the beginning of the holiday season, Georgia Power has announced the return of its annual Project SHARE campaign.  Created in partnership with The Salvation Army in 1985, Project SHARE was one of the first fuel funds in America.  Since its inception, more than one million Georgians have benefitted from the program which helps residents in need of emergency assistance with expenses such as utility bills, housing, food and even medical necessities. 

Although Georgia Power's support of the program continues throughout the year, the company highlights the work of Project SHARE annually on December and January Georgia Power bills. By enrolling in the program, customers have the option to make an automatic monthly donation of $1, $2, $5 or $10 simply by adding the amount to their bill payment. Georgia Power then matches the donation, dollar for dollar.

Last year, Project SHARE provided assistance to more than 30,000 Georgians, with Georgia Power and its customers contributing $2.5 million to the program.  The program continues to grow each year and, since 1985, Georgia Power and its customers have contributed more than $64 million to the program with all customer donations matched by the company.  Project SHARE is highly localized, with funds allocated back to residents within the county from which they are contributed.
