AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Interactive energy platform developer, Innovari, announced today the launch of its grid optimization project for Colombian utility Empresas Municipales de Cali E.I.C.E. E.S.P. (EMCALI).
EMCALI is a multi-sector utility owned by the Municipality of Cali, a city of 2.6 million people located in the Valle del Cauca, Colombia. Funded through a U.S. Trade and Development Agency grant awarded to EMCALI, this initial phase examines the technical, economic and financial feasibility of deploying Innovari's Interactive Energy Platform™ throughout the utility's distribution system. As a result of the project implementation, EMCALI will ensure improved service reliability for their end-use customers and benefit from improved system utilization, reliability and grid situational awareness.
"This initial phase with EMCALI will be our model moving forward as we support Latin America's grid optimization efforts," said Manuel Arancibia, Innovari President of Latin America. "Joining our strategic deployment partner OMC, we're looking forward to working with one of the most innovative utilities in Colombia to support our expansion into the region and enable a variety of solutions that reduce costs and risks for both EMCALI and its commercial customers."
"This project will be an innovative technological proposal in Colombia. It will be the first project of its kind in the country and therefore will serve as a national guide for regulatory and business models that provide solutions for the growth of energy demand during peak hours," said Andres Felipe Jaramillo Salazar, EMCALI manager of the energy strategic business unit. "EMCALI will be the national pioneer in implementing solutions to this challenge posed by the Ministry of Mines and Energy and the project can have a direct impact on national energy efficiency."
