New Breast Patient Navigator Certification Helps Clinical Coordinator Support Patients Along Their Breast Cancer Journey
From breast cancer screening to cancer treatment, InformedDNA provides the care and direction patients need to navigate the healthcare system
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Dec. 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- To further enhance patient care and client services, InformedDNA's clinical coordinator Rachel Utesch, a registered nurse, has earned her Breast Patient Navigator Certification from the National Consortium of Breast Centers (NCBC).
"We are thrilled to announce Rachel's certification, as this only adds to her already deep healthcare knowledge," said Rebecca Sutphen, InformedDNA chief medical officer and president. "As a key clinical contact for our Platinum Partners physician program, this new recognition will allow her to better serve our clients and in turn, their patients when they are in need of mammograms, expert opinions, decisions on genetic testing, or post-test interpretation and planning."
Platinum Partners is a unique provider program offered by InformedDNA that gives physicians unparalleled access to genetics experts (including breast patient navigators), enhanced communication and reporting and gives their patients access to concierge-style genetic counseling services. What's more, InformedDNA's Platinum Partners program and the company's vast genetics expertise fulfill the need the need for genetic assessment, a key component of accreditation by the Commission on Cancer for all cancer centers.
As the primary point of contact for Platinum Partners' clients, Utesch must not only understand client needs, but also the point of view of patients who are actively going through a possible cancer diagnosis or treatment. Now, as a specialized and certified breast patient navigator, she enhances InformedDNA's abilities to offer to providers and patients alike the best information for the purposes of medical management and treatment for breast cancer patients, which can be particularly difficult to navigate considering the sheer number of testing and procedural options available.
"As a patient advocate and healthcare professional, I want the best outcome for each patient. This certification and my role at InformedDNA has given me the opportunity to help those affected by breast cancer navigate through the best treatment of care in an increasingly complex healthcare world," said Utesch.
Utesch joins Whitney Ducaine, a board-certified genetic counselor and fellow InformedDNA employee who gained her Breast Patient Navigator Certification in 2013.
The Breast Patient Navigator Certification Program was developed by a peer review team of the NCBC. According to the NCBC, the purpose of this certification is to set standards of achievement and the professional's role; enhance patient safety, quality of care and delivery of services; and recognize professionals who advance beyond basic knowledge in a field of specialty.
