"With 'Clean Break,' we wanted to push the boundaries of branded content by creating a highly entertaining series that epitomized the 'Clean Break' Hydro lifestyle," said Brad Harrison , senior group marketing director for Schick Hydro. "Whether guys are breaking free from a more ordinary life like the stars of this series, or looking to break free from a more ordinary shave, they can do it with Hydro and 'Clean Break.' We like to say Schick Hydro has the power to free your skin, and with this series, we're showing guys how to be even more free."
The story of "Clean Break" follows Luke Rodgers , Steven Helmkamp and Chase Penny as each man is plucked from his everyday life to explore the "Clean Break lifestyle," challenging himself to explore what it means to truly break free:
- Luke Rodgers , a lifelong athlete, MBA-holding bartender and brother of one of the NFL's MVP quarterbacks, joined "Clean Break" to put his athleticism to the test and find the confidence to pursue his dreams.
- Steven Helmkamp , an adventure-seeker stuck in a professional rut, sought to rekindle his motivation and find true happiness.
- Chase Penny , a Chicago native and stay-at-home dad, hoped for a second chance to live out his endless pursuit of adrenaline and to re-energize his outlook on life.
"'Clean Break' was created to document a period of real transformation in the lives of three 20-something men who, like so many people today, had begun to feel trapped in their everyday existence," said Stuart McLean , CEO of Content & Co. "The show provides a unique insight into this generation's need for a chance to break free. Viewers will be hooked as they watch the guys featured in 'Clean Break' spend an action-packed week living the intense lifestyle of elite Hawaiian watermen, gaining a fresh perspective on their own lives in the process."
Legendary watermen chip in along the way with lessons, tips and demonstrations to show the 'Clean Break' guys how to break free:
- Dave Kalama – pioneer of modern-day stand-up paddle surfing, featured in such iconic surf films as "Riding Giants" and "Step into Liquid."
- Bear Woznick – legendary tandem surfer and author of "Deep in the Wave: A Surfing Guide to the Soul," to be released July 2012.
- Kimi Werner – pioneer of sustainable spearfishing and winner of multiple spearfishing championships.
- Buzzy Kerbox – co-pioneer of the famous tow-in approach to surfing with Laird Hamilton and Dave Kalama and once ranked 10th in the world.
- Archie Kalepa – renowned big-wave surfer, accomplished waterman and one of a handful of men able to successfully tow surf the enormous waves that break on Maui's North Shore every winter.
- Bret Marumoto – world-famous surf board designer and shaper from the North Shore.
- Tamayo Perry – considered one of the raw talents to emerge from the East side of Oahu, famous for competing in the Pipeline Masters for several years.
"When you look at all the watermen on 'Clean Break,' we each made a name for ourselves by living life our own way. You could say each of us made our own clean break at some point to get us where we are today," said Dave Kalama . "It's really cool to be able to share this lifestyle with three great guys like Luke, Steven and Chase, and really the millions of other guys who will tune in to the show. Hopefully we'll inspire more than a few of them to break free, and try something exhilarating and new."
These stories unfold over six straight weeks, unlocking the emotional journeys of each "Clean Break" team member as they experience extreme sports thrills alongside the expertise and mentorship of local heroes.
