New York Chinese Chorus Celebrates Guojun Wu's 60th Conducting Anniversary with Free Performance on December 6th in Port Washington
PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y., Dec. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The New York Chinese Chorus will celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Conductor Guojun Wu with a performance on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 2 PM at Landmark on Main Street, at 2323 Main Street in Port Washington. The New York Chinese Chorus was founded in October 2009 with the generous support of sponsors New York City Councilman Peter Koo and Mrs. Tai Wang, who serves as the President. Ms. Ning Jiang was the first conductor. Professor Guojun Wu, the current conductor, has served since the spring of 2012. A graduate of the Shanghai Conservatory in 1955, Professor Wu co-founded the Shanghai Conservatory Elementary Branch and has served as a faculty member for the past 37 years. The Conservatory is an institution renowned for its distinctive level of higher musical education. Many of Conductor Wu's students are world-famous musicians, including vocalists, instrumentalists, composers and musical educators. At nearly 88 years of age, Conductor Wu is celebrating his 60th anniversary of conducting music and brings a wide range and depth of musical experience to the performances. Among his plans is to work with the chorus and Tai Wang at Lincoln Center in New York City. After the December 6th concert, the chorus plans to perform for the Alliance for Smiles and at other special events throughout 2015.
The 18-year-old piano accompanist, Eric Liu, is American born Chinese and served as the New York Chinese chorus pianist since the age of 13. At the age of ten, Eric was given the privilege of taking a master piano class and performing with the world's most renowned pianist, Lang Lang. Eric was awarded first place in the International LIC Piano Competition.
