NOAA's Office of National Marine Sanctuaries launches "Earth is Blue" campaign
Sharing the beauty of our oceans and Great Lakes: a photo every day and a video every week
SILVER SPRING, Md., Oct. 23, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- NOAA's Office of National Marine Sanctuaries (ONMS) today celebrates its 42nd anniversary of protecting America's most treasured ocean and Great Lakes areas by launching a new social media campaign – Earth is Blue.
National marine sanctuaries protect some of the planet's most treasured underwater places, and ONMS wants to share them with the world. During the campaign, ONMS will share a photo every day and a video every week highlighting the wonder and beauty of these special places – and the work being done to protect them. From kelp forests to shipwrecks to coral reefs, ONMS will share some of the stunning imagery that these protected areas inspire.
Sanctuary visitors are encouraged to share their photos and videos with ONMS on Instagram using the hashtag #EarthisBlue for the chance to be selected as the photo or video of the week. To learn more about the campaign, check out the Earth is Blue video on YouTube or visit the Earth is Blue website.
NOAA's Office of National Marine Sanctuaries serves as trustee for a system of 14 marine protected areas, encompassing more than 170,000 square miles of America's ocean and Great Lakes waters. Through active research, management, and public engagement, national marine sanctuaries sustain healthy environments that are the foundation for thriving communities and stable economies.
