PetroDE 5.0 Expands Visualization Options for More Efficient Cloud-Based Oil and Gas Intelligence

BROOMFIELD, Colo., Dec. 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- PetroDE, the world's first petroleum decision engine, has released a major update that expands the number of basemap layers available to users to nine.

Rather than the single Google Earth layer used in earlier versions, PetroDE 5.0 allows users to choose the basemap that best allows them to visualize their data.

Esri World Topography becomes the default basemap, but users may also select Esri USA Topography, Esri World Imagery, two Open Data Commons maps including OpenStreetMap, and three Google Maps options. PetroDE then adds data from providers such as IHS and Drillinginfo, state and federal agencies, and client-proprietary systems.

Geophysicist Alan Lindsey founded PetroDE out of frustration with the time required to load and analyze data to evaluate resource plays. "Our new release brings a whole world of basemap choices and frees PetroDE from the constraints of the Google Earth plug-in," Lindsey said. "This release provides a framework for mobile and print support in the future."

PetroDE 5.0, code-named Duckbilled Platypus, adds several other features requested by users at oil and gas companies across the United States:

• Locate and map as many as 2,000 API well numbers in a single search by simply copying the APIs from another application and pasting them into PetroDE
• An easier interface for working with data from closely-spaced wells
• Easier-to-use scroll and zoom functions and map scale information

Beta testers of the new release report that information PetroDE displays in 30 seconds can take 30 minutes to retrieve and display using traditional methods. Geoscientists, engineers, and technicians at leading companies, including Range Resources, Great Western Oil & Gas and SM Energy, use PetroDE to make faster, collaborative, better-informed decisions.
