Preventing Data Loss in Cyber Attacks Like the One Recently Launched against Sony Pictures Entertainment

Last week the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) warned US businesses, in a five page, confidential warning, that hackers have used malicious software to launch a devastating attack in the United States, following the breach last week at Sony Pictures Entertainment.
The warning said the malware overwrites all data on hard drives of computers, including the master boot record, which prevents them from booting up. "The overwriting of the data files will make it extremely difficult and costly, if not impossible, to recover the data using standard forensic methods" the report stated.
