MEMPHIS, Tenn., Oct. 25, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Richard Shadyac, Jr., President and CEO of ALSAC, the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital®, has received the 2016 Responsible CEO of the Year Award from Corporate Responsibility (CR) Magazine. He is the only non-profit executive to have ever received the award.
Organized by the Corporate Social Responsibility Association and presented at CR Magazine's Responsible CEO of the Year Awards dinner Oct. 19 in New York City, the Responsible CEO of the Year Award recognizes CEOs who visibly exceed standards in the areas of employee relations, environmental impact and sustainability, human rights, philanthropy and corporate responsibility practices.
Other recipients of 2016 awards include Manny Chirico, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of PVH Corp with the Lifetime Achievement Award, and Richard Noll, Chairman and CEO of HanesBrands.
Honorees must set a clear example for their peers by maintaining sustainable supply chains as well as by creating transparent company cultures that promote and reward corporate social responsibility and authenticity in every area of their enterprises.
As President and CEO of ALSAC, Rick Shadyac has led the non-profit organization to record-breaking achievements, guiding strategic efforts that have increased fundraising revenue by 70 percent since the start of his tenure in 2009, Additionally, the St. Jude brand was named the highest quality brand for two years in a row and the top healthcare nonprofit three years in a row in the Harris Interactive EquiTrend® study of more than 95,000 U.S. consumers and 3,500 for-profit and non-profit brands.
In this tenure as President and CEO, Shadyac implemented a number of advances, including strengthening the organization's data-driven approach to business decisions, creating a Center for Excellence in Analytics, and appointing ALSAC's first Chief Marketing Officer as well as the first Chief Donor Officer for any U.S. non-profit. It will cost nearly $1 billion to operate St. Jude this year alone, and more than 75 percent of those funds must be raised by ALSAC from generous supporters.
