Siempre Mujer Partners With El Museo Del Barrio For A Fundraiser To Celebrate 'Dia De Los Muertos'
Annual Benefit Highlights the Importance of the Traditional Mexican Holiday and Raises Funds for Art & Education Programs
NEW YORK, Oct. 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Siempre Mujer, the largest Spanish-language magazine for Latinas in the U.S., announces its partnership with New York's El Museo del Barrio to honor the "Day of the Dead" and support Latino, Caribbean and Latin American art and culture in New York.
The event, held at El Museo del Barrio at 8 p.m. on Friday, November 1, will give the public an opportunity to experience the festivities and traditions of this significant holiday. Celebrated by millions of people in Mexico and around the world, Dia de los Muertos honors those who have passed. But instead of mourning, celebrants remember loved ones with festive food, music, costumes and gifts at altars.
The evening will bring together leaders in Hispanic art, media, entertainment, philanthropy and business. Event highlights include models wearing spectacular costumes designed by creative guru Susan Jaramillo with elaborate makeup creations by M.A.C and hair styled by Aveda; a one-of-a-kind altar created by artist Yaocihuatzin; endemic foods including Pan de Muerto; special musical guests including Latin-fusion star Xenia Rubinos; and more.
"With its costumes and skulls, Dia de los Muertos may seem very similar to Halloween, but the message of the holiday is much more meaningful and poignant," Maria Marrero, Editor-in-Chief, Siempre Mujer says. "It's a celebration of the life of those who have left us physically but are still with us spiritually. Siempre Mujer is delighted to be a part of an event that takes this traditional celebration to the next level while introducing it to a new audience, especially as the Latino population in America is growing more than ever."
The event is open to the public, with tickets available both online, at http://elmuseo.org/event/dia-de-los-muertos/, and at the door. Proceeds from ticket sales and the silent auction will go to support El Museo del Barrio's arts initiatives.
Siempre Mujer is the official media partner of the event. Additional event partners include the Mexico Tourism Board and Veuve Clicquot, who will be serving champagne throughout the evening.
