LOUISVILLE, Ky., Nov. 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Continuing its mission to motivate middle and high school students across the nation to hone their leadership skills through projects focused on solving hunger, Lift a Life Foundation, in partnership with USA TODAY Charitable Foundation and Yum! Brands Foundation, announces the Leadership Awards Drawing for schools that enter a competed project for the "Lead2Feed World Hunger Leadership Challenge."
Through the Leadership Awards Drawing, up to five winning schools may receive $5,000 each in technology products. While the award is limited to one per school, schools may enter multiple teams through December 15, 2014. Those not chosen will be automatically considered for the second drawing, taking place on March 20, 2015 with a project submission deadline of March 15, 2015.
Since its inception two years ago, nearly half a million middle and high school students at more than 2,500 schools and clubs have participated in the "Lead2Feed World Hunger Leadership Challenge" for a chance to win over $250,000 in prize money grants to student teams for U.S. public charities engaged in hunger relief programs. The teacher-led educational program combines a standards-based curriculum on the topic of leadership along with the challenge of solving world hunger through service learning projects. The program is based on the leadership principles from the book TAKING PEOPLE WITH YOU: The Only Way to Make BIG Things Happen, by David Novak, Yum! Brands' Chairman and CEO, which teaches that you'll never make big things happen until you get people on your side.
"The Lead2Feed World Hunger Leadership Challenge provides educators and students with a turnkey service-learning experience that's free and aligned to the Common Core State Standards," said Diane Barrett, President, USA TODAY Charitable Foundation. "The technology Leadership Awards Drawing adds value and provides another reason for educators and students to get involved and find creative ways to fight hunger in their local communities and around the globe."
