MIAMI, Jan. 31, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- On Thursday, January 31, the Centro Cultural Espanol of Miami will host an evening with the graphic artist Manuel Estrada , illustrator of The Elephant's Journey, from Nobel Prize winner Jose Saramago .

Knowing how to write is knowing how to manipulate and utilize graphic symbols and the alphabet, in an educated manner, to be able to express and communicate ideas. In this digital age, movement and images are essential when conceiving a book. The event will be the presentation of the special edition of The Elephant's Journey, written by Nobel Prize winner Jose Saramago and illustrated and designed by Manuel Estrada . This edition commemorates the 50th anniversary of Spanish publisher Santillana. Manuel Estrada and Pilar del Rio , journalist and Saramago's widow, will be in attendance as well as representatives from Santillana and Books and Books. Maggy Cuesta , board member of AIGA and recipient of the AIGA-Miami Fellows 2004 will be the host.

Jose de Sousa Saramago (Portugal 1922 - Spain 2010) Portuguese writer, novelist, poet, playwright, and journalist. In 1998 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature becoming the first Portuguese writer to receive this award. The gospel according to Jesus Christ (1991) catapulted him to fame.

Pilar del Rio was born in Grananda, Spain. She is a journalist, writer and translator. She translated many of the works by Nobel Prize winner Jose Saramago , who was her husband until his death. She currently presides over the Saramago Foundation.

Manuel Estrada (Spain-1953) is a graphic artist and illustrator. In the 80s, he founded, together with five collegues, Sidecar, a graphic studio. The studio focused on design of posters, book and magazine covers. During nine years, he directed the Master of arts in design at the European Institute of Design in Spain. His work has received numerous awards, including Laus, AEPD and Diploma of Art Directors Club of Europe.

Maggy Cuesta was born in Cuba, and grew up in Texas. She graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelors in Fine Arts in Graphic Design. Ms Cuesta has served on the board and as President of the American Institute of Graphic Arts [AIGA]-Miami Chapter and in 2004, she was given the AIGA Fellows Award. Her work has been published in Communication Arts, Print, Print Casebooks, AIGA, Graphis and Hot Graphics USA.
