VA Secretary, SBA Administrator To Address 2014 Veterans Small Business Engagement
VA to host annual event in Atlanta, aims to increase contract opportunities for Veteran-Owned Small Businesses
WASHINGTON, Dec. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- An expected 3,000 attendees will gather for three days of business connections, powerful sessions, and top-notch networking in Atlanta, Georgia, Dec. 9-11. The national event will host Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert A. McDonald and Small Business Administration head Maria Contreras-Sweet, who are scheduled to deliver remarks.
National Veterans Small Business Engagement (NVSBE) is aimed at addressing the greatest challenge to the success of Veteran-Owned Small Businesses (VOSBs)—access to decision makers. U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), in collaboration with other Federal agencies and commercial partners, will host the fourth annual NVSBE at the Georgia World Congress Center. More than 60 collaborating government agencies and corporations are expected to participate.
"VA is committed to increasing Veteran-Owned Small Businesses in private-public partnerships," VA Secretary Robert A. McDonald said. McDonald will deliver the keynote address for the event on Thursday, Dec. 11, where he is expected to share his "new vision" for the department. "NVSBE strengthens our commitment by offering Veteran business owners the access and tools they need to thrive in the federal marketplace. VA is about Veterans in all that we do—first, last, and always," McDonald said.
"The biggest challenge for small business owners is to connect with those who make the decisions, those who can help them get the contracts," added Thomas J. Leney, executive director of Small and Veteran Business Programs, VA. "NVSBE provides small businesses a solution to that challenge."
NVSBE attendees meet face-to-face with procurement decision makers and contract officers to build relationships that enhance their chances of winning new business, as well as network with other businesses to discover subcontracting and teaming opportunities.
NVSBE provides an opportunity to compete for more than $3.5 billion procurements that are part of the VA Veterans First program.
