Warby Parker and Invisible Children Launch Limited Edition Sunglasses, Kicking off the Summer Season with Fashion-Forward International Advocacy
Eyewear company Warby Parker and media based non-profit Invisible Children have teamed up to outfit today's young activist to raise awareness about the plight of child soldiers in central Africa, inviting consumers to 'DO MORE THAN JUST WATCH.'
NEW YORK and SAN DIEGO, June 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Fashion eyewear brand Warby Parker launched in early 2010 with the belief "that eyewear can be a powerful advocacy tool for global issues." After designing a pink frame for Susan G. Komen for the Cure last October to promote breast cancer awareness, New York based Warby Parker has teamed up with California's Invisible Children to bring awareness to a new cause. The dual coast collaboration has created a limited run of vintage-inspired sunglasses to bring awareness to some of most vulnerable populations on earth—former child soldiers and those displaced by the 25-year conflict in central Africa.

With every pair sold, not only will someone in need receive a pair of optical lenses (adhering to Warby Parker's "Buy a Pair, Give a Pair" model), but $30 from each $95 sale will be donated to Invisible Children.
HOW WILL THE $30 DONATION BE USED?
Although all proceeds will be "unrestricted," Invisible Children will primarily direct the $30 from each pair to support their Protection Plan in DR Congo, a strategy drafted to protect those in the region who are most at risk from the Lord's Resistance Army.

THE PARTNERSHIP
"As a former director of non-profit VisionSpring, I recognize the value of unrestricted funding. We know that Invisible Children will put the money to good use whether it is used to rebuild schools, create an early warning system for those in war-torn Congo or pay staff at their headquarters in San Diego."
-Neil Blumenthal, Co-Founder, Warby Parker
"We've built a values-based and value creating partnership with Warby Parker. In many ways, we're kindred spirits. We powwow regularly to learn from one another. For example, we share best practices from each other's campaigns and employee development strategies. We even share fashion tips - they've outfitted our "visually challenged" staff with glasses and we've outfitted their team with Invisible Children gear."
-Jason Russell, Co-Founder, Invisible Children
