World's Largest Business Organization Launches Consumer Safety Effort
Global Brand Council Fights Fraudulent Goods During Holiday Shopping Season
WASHINGTON, Dec. 3, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, the Global Brand Council -- an initiative of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Global Intellectual Property Center -- released a nationwide Public Service Announcement offering consumers tips on how to spot counterfeit goods and avoid purchasing them. The PSA will kick off the Global Brand Council's "Safe Shopping" campaign for the holidays.
"There's no better time than the holiday shopping season to educate consumers about the dangers of counterfeit goods -- and to empower them to shop safely," said Mark Elliot, executive vice president of the Global IP Center. "While looking for the perfect present, shoppers shouldn't have to worry about whether the products they buy will put their loved ones in harm's way."
The "Safe Shopping" campaign challenges consumers to look out for fraudulent goods, whether they're shopping at the mall or online. Consumers can protect themselves by insisting that online retailers process their transactions securely, by reporting faulty or dangerous products to the authorities, and by scrutinizing products' packaging.
The Global Brand Council partners with companies large and small to promote the value of brands and trademarks as tools that protect consumers and merit their trust.
By educating consumers and supporting domestic and global law enforcement efforts against dangerous fakes, the Global Brand Council stands as a prominent advocate for consumer safety.
"Consumers trust that their hard-earned dollars are buying high-quality merchandise that will perform just as they expect it to," said Elliot. "By raising awareness about imposter goods, this campaign will enable consumers to make smart, safe shopping choices this holiday season."
